How to copy or move PDL members list to Excel?

I had to count the number of members in an Outlook PDL (Personal Distribution List). Now this is what the issue I faced in office and I had to find a way to do that. It took a lot of time with lots of trials and errors but here it is in steps:

1. Click on the + sign in the outlook to expand the PDL to its individual members.
2. Select all or Ctrl+A to select all the individual members in the PDL.
3. Copy or Ctrl+C.
4. Paste that into Microsoft Word.
5. In Microsoft Word, press Ctrl+F or open the find dialogue window.
6. Select the Replace tab.
7. In the 'Find what:' field, type in ";" without the quotes.
8. In the 'Replace with:' field, type in "^|" without the quotes, you could also use"; ^|" without the quotes.
9. Click on the 'Replace' or 'Replace All' button.
10. Now you have a list which you can easily copy paste into to excel... simple isn't it? And oh by the way, after the replace procedure is complete, Microsoft Word automatically gives the count :-)

If the above steps don't work, follow the above 7 steps, then click on the More button in a section called Replace. When you click on the 'More' button, the window expands to give some more options. Click on the Special button and it will give a list. Select 'Manual Line Break' and it will automatically populate the 'Replace with:' field with the special character ^|. Then click on 'Replace' or 'Replace All'.

Here is a screenshot for your reference from Microsoft Word:

By the way its just a pre-programmed feature in Microsoft Word that is used here. I haven't tried Wordpad or other word systems that are available. It's quite possible the same thing or probably even better ways are possible using other systems but I am not aware of it right now. Well I have used Windows 7 and Word 2007 for this demo purpose.

I know there should be a way in Microsoft Excel. When I find out how, I will update it here.

Peace!

What makes an Electronic Cigarette tick?

What makes an Electronic Cigarette tick?

The e cigarette or Electronic Cigarette vapor is virtually odorless. There is no ash what so ever, no cigarette butts and definitely no need for a cigarette lighter. The E cigarette looks just like a real cigarette and tastes just like the real thing. It will never burn up anything simply because it does not need fire. You can smoke it anywhere any time. If you happen to use it in office, you colleagues wouldn't even know that you are smoking. Electronic cigarettes protects your family and friends health as there is no scope for what is called 2nd hand smoke. Typically, Electronic cigarettes come with disposable cartridges and are usually available in different flavors and different concentrations of nicotine. These days the electronic cigarettes are available at very competent prices.

How does an actual electroic cigarette work?
Typically, the electronic cigarette is made up of 2 pieces, one atomizer also known as the cartridge, and a rechargeable battery which is in the tobacco area of normal cigarette. These 2 pieces join together to work as one piece which looks just like a normal cigarette. We can use it just like a normal cigarette and take a puff, it turns it on whith a red led that lights up the end of the smokeless cigarette, looks just like the real thing. It usually has a USB charger that you can plug into any USB ports on the computer. Some times it also has a plug in electric outlet charger as well. Charging is simple, just unscrew the battery end of the electric cigarette and plug it right into the charging unit. A typical charge lasts anywhere between 1 and 2 days and varies from vendor to vendor.

The following picture gives a good idea about the variety of designs available:

USB 3.0 is finally here!

Speed - speed and more speed! The USB 3.0 will be faster than the speed of light! You will be able to upload an entire hard drive in just over a minute (Depending on storage size). You can download more than 100 MP3’s to any player in a matter of seconds, yes I said seconds.

Developers will release the USB 3.0 specifications in the forth quarter of this year. USB (Universal Serial Bus) - also dubbed as Super Speed USB is a major revamp from USB 2.0. Recently, Intel released the larger part of the specification for the Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) for USB 3.0. That’s 90 percent of what’s needed to build silicon that will work with the USB 3.0 protocol currently being finished by the USB Implementers Forum, a group of technical giants including HP, Intel, Microsoft, and Texas Instruments that have banded together to create the protocols that will enable manufacturers and software companies to produce cameras, Smartphone’s, music players, and other stuff that can talk to computers.

"It’s going to have over ten times the performance," claims Jeff Ravencraft, president and chair of the USB-IF and a technology strategist at Intel.

USB 3.0 will have dedicated lines going in and out, however, so that communications between host and device can happen at the same time. The other major improvement is in the data-transfer rate, which will be close to 5 gigabits per second (Gbps) in each direction (officially targeting 4.7 Gbps), compared with the 480 megabits per second (Mbps), one-way, that USB 2.0 offers.

"It can all happen at the same time," Ravencraft said. "The turnaround time has been minimized. We have these dedicated lanes and they can operate simultaneously." Ravencraft also said that USB 3.0 will be backward compatible both ways, so that consumers who get a nifty new digital camera with USB 3.0 will still be able to download their pictures to their older desktop with its USB 2.0 ports. And new computers with 3.0 will still be able to communicate with 2.0 devices.

The advantage, of course, is that the much faster speed of USB 3.0 will enable the transfer of much larger files, including such behemoths as high-definition video. "We need faster data transfer, so we’re not sitting there watching things download," said an AMD spokesperson. "It won’t be too long before you’re looking at You Tube videos in HD format. Certainly, AMD’s products are moving in that direction."
